2 Lessons from a broken Coffee Maker
I have been praying for a coffee maker the past month. I was wanting to have the one that uses capsules or a proper espresso machine. I don’t know why it was in my heart since I have a good coffee maker at home and when I wanted really good coffee I’d just visit my good friend for a free cup and free chat. Sometimes it comes with free food too!
I saw the coffee makers I was praying for, twice at unimaginable prices. One was being sold at 70% off and the other was at 60% off. Both unused. I saw it at the beginning of the month so I definitely had some money to spare. But, the stingy blood running in me said I still had one at home.
Today, our coffee maker broke. On the bright side, me and my wife had a bonding moment while brewing today’s coffee using parts from the broken machine.
In the absence of coffee, our mornings seems to have been ruined. But it is still a blessing because of the lessons we learned. First, we learned that we really don’t need coffee in the morning.
And second, we learned that God is always faithful. Sometimes we miss Him and that includes His provision and His miracles – because of our personal preferences. Sometimes we fail to see that the answers to our prayers is right in front of us, but we don’t take a hold of it because we lack faith. We refuse to go out of our comfort zone. To us it might just be a simple coffee maker, but to other it might be a car or a dream job. Our experience can be translated into a lot more significant versions. Just like what happened to the Jews in their encounter with Jesus.
It was like an Acts 2:22-25 moment. The Jews prayed for a savior. In response, God sent Jesus as an answer to that. But they ended up crucifying him. Face palm moment right? They ended up killing the one who would save them.
And yet God’s love for them remained. Their salvation is still up for grabs, they just don’t know it yet. And thus the preaching found in Acts 2. Salvation is still available for all of us.
In fact, until this very day, He is still sending His messengers to share the good news. The message that Christ paid for our sins in full. That he has been resurrected and is now offering the gift of salvation to those who repent and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. Question is, did you miss that? Like the coffee makers on sale, did you ignore it?
Last year is like our coffee maker incident. It was a difficult year for most. Regardless, it is still a blessing because it reminds us that we need Christ more than ever. Many have prayed to encounter God. Many wanted to experience His miracles. He answers prayers. He provides, he might have already answered, but we might have missed it because of our stubbornness.
Don’t commit the same mistake I did. Let’s not miss Christ. Accept His gift of salvation.
God is faithful! He fulfills all his promises. Just keep on praying! As you look for Christ, the answer to your prayers WILL just be around the corner.
