3 Encouraging Truths for thOSE HAVING A HARD TIME
I grew up as an optimist. I always think everything will go as planned. Most of my decisions founded on a “hoped for” successful outcome of events. But that was not always the case, and most of the time, I end up discouraged and in need of significant encouragement. In short, I expected too much, acted based on that expectation, and ended up disappointed.
In one of my travels to the US, I found out my experience was nothing compared to the 1 out of 5 American adults that seem to find themselves falling into the bottomless pit of despair. People like Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade battling loneliness every single day. In times like this, it is comforting to find out we can cling to the bible for encouragement.
You are not alone, Christ is always with you and knows what you are going through
Hebrews 11:35-40 also paints a picture of men and women of faith that suffered until the day they joined Christ. You are not the only one going through suffering and depression. Many, even in the church, go through the same agony and pain. But what is so encouraging is that Jesus knows what we are going through. In fact, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matt 27:46) tells us that even Christ has suffered.
He knows where you are at the moment, and He is more than able to relate personally to your situation. I encourage you to find Him in your situation. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
He Has Promised to Heal You and More
We all know that Christ died so that we may be healed (Isa 53:5). Healing is already a given. So more than the miracle of being restored, it is always a joy and privilege to be of service to the one that truly loves us. The story of the man born blind in John 9 is a perfect example of how Christ can turn our mess into a message. It starts with people asking who is at fault (John 9:1-2), but Jesus said that our situation could be an opportunity to watch God’s work (John 9:3).
God is more than able and willing to heal you so that His love and kindness can be seen through you as his miracle manifests towards you. Know this: the battle that you fight each day has already been won on your behalf. Instead of having a defeated mindset, let us engrave in our minds that, although we suffer, it is an opportunity to declare His goodness.
You Can Always Turn to Him for Encouragement
We often forget how good God has been to us. We sometimes turn blind to the promises that He continues to fulfill. But one thing we should always remember that His grace is sufficient for us. 2 Cor 12:9-10 reminds us that we are made perfect in our weakness because of God’s unlimited supply of grace.
Psalm 46:1 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength. There is no one else we can turn to and no place we should rather be but in the presence of the Lord.
Our pain and suffering may never leave our side while we are in this place called earth. But let us rejoice to know that God, the creator of heaven and earth, will always be with us. He has accepted us despite our brokenness and can make us whole again.
Lastly, He is also using your family, church-mates, doctors, and colleagues to bless you. Never think that you are alone. People are ready and willing to pray with you. I pray that in your struggles, you may find the Prince of Peace. He is always right beside you; he knows what you are going through.
